The Universiti Malaya Data Analytics Club (UMDAC) recently hosted its flagship event, the Data Science Digital Race 2024, a three-day competition themed around "Space Exploration," challenging participants in mathematics, programming, machine learning, and data analysis. Nearly 300 participants from over 30 institutions across 11 nationalities competed, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suraya Hamid officiating the event. UMDAC organized the race to provide hands-on experience in solving real-world problems using data science, while fostering creativity and innovation. Sponsors like UMobile expressed excitement for future collaborations, emphasizing data's power in driving innovation. The event concluded with awards for the top winners, a RM10,000 prize pool, and free data science certifications sponsored by iTrain for winners. Machine Learning Scientist from MoneyLion highlighted the importance of data manipulation and feature generation in AI-driven solutions. UMDAC aims to continue organizing such creative competitions, with plans for future events like Datathon, which will further push the boundaries of data science learning.
