Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) has joined hands with the Federation of Malaysian Electrical Appliances Dealers' Association (FOMEDA) to initiative academic-industry collaboration. The partnership was announced with a memorable mock cheque handover ceremony at The Cube, FCSIT, Universiti Malaya. The initiative bridges bachelor students’ final year projects with industry needs, offering students practical exposure while addressing real-world challenges. Through this collaboration, FOMEDA sponsors innovative Final Year Projects, with potential pathways to evolve into impactful research grants. The highlight of the day was the mock cheque handover, with FOMEDA presented RM13,800 to FCSIT. Key representatives from FOMEDA, including Mr. Tan Man Lee, Mr. Rico Lee, and Mr. Alex Chua, joined Prof. Dr. Chiew in this symbolic gesture. The ceremony was witnessed by esteemed guests, including FOMEDA’s Honorary Presidents and Advisors, Dato’ Koay Ah Meng and Mr. Wong Lean Fatt AMP, as well as Prof. Dr. Mohd Yamani Idna Idris and Dr. Ong Sim Ying, Head of FCSIT’s Software Engineering Department. This collaboration marks a significant step in transforming academic projects into practical industry solutions, empowering students and contributing to society at large.
